Axis Gallery is pleased to announce our 2016 Invitational Exhibition with artists Karen Holmes and Paul Taylor during the month of December.  These two artists were juried into our 2016 National Juried Exhibition at Axis gallery and have been invited back to showcase more of their work.

Karen Holmes:

A native Californian, Karen Holmes is a visual artist whose work in photography and experimental film examines elements of transition and memory ranging from the personal narratives inscribed in family photographs to the unexpected, incidental stories embedded in urban landscapes.  After completing a B.A. in Art (Painting) from California College of Arts and Crafts, she began working in photography and film, earning a M.A. in Cinema from San Francisco State University.
Her photographic work has been exhibited in group exhibitions throughout the United States. Her short experimental films have been screened in festivals, museums and galleries in the United States and Europe. Holmes was Professor of Cinema at San Francisco State University for over 30 years before retiring to focus on her personal creative work. She has photographed in Ireland, Japan and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Paul Taylor:

Paul Taylor was born in Minnesota and lives in Berkeley, CA.  He received a BA from Carleton College and an MFA from the University of California, Davis.  Paul works across multiple media including sculpture, video, performance, photography, and drawing.  His work explores the effects of increased digital immersion on our lives and examines the unseen structures and systems that support our existence and modify our behavior.

Paul has participated in exhibitions at the Headlands Center of the Arts in Sausalito, CA; the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, CA; and Munch Gallery in New York, NY among others.  His videos have screened at festivals nationally and internationally.  Paul has published articles in the Parsons Journal of Information Mapping and Media-N Journal.
