Breathwork
Axis Gallery 2016
“These new constructions focus on the ephemeral nature of breath. It is such a fundamental, vital, phenomena, which virtually defines our existence, and yet, can be so unconscious to us. Breath work is a fundamental part of many disciplines of music, athletics, etc. Practices such as yoga, chi gong, tai chi, and, meditation of all sorts focus on our awareness of breath which can lead to greater knowledge of one’s self and heightened consciousness. Using light and translucent materials, the experience of breath is explored”.
Janice Nakashima has lived and worked in Northern California most of her life. Although she grew up in the bay area, she moved to Sacramento in the ’80s where she has been a studio artist in the Pocket area. She has been a member of Axis Gallery since around 2005.
