Indígenous is an exploration of memory and ancestral beliefs as presented through a series of 90s era Chicano hieroglyphics. An ongoing body of work, Pacheco is developing a personal lexicon to uncover his ancestral lineage and to form a current understanding of identity. This series of paintings and sculptures challenge his immigrant status and asserts his native-ness to California. Rooting himself in this understanding, and fighting for belonging, is work he does for cultural survival.
