Axis Gallery is pleased to present Kenna Doeringer’s solo exhibition, “A Bibliophile’s Portfolio”. Kenna’s series was inspired by the combination of two passions, sculpture and literature, which honors the volumes of pages she has read over the years. Kenna explains, “The printed word holds a deep passion for numerous people. Like many, I collect, move, store, and reread books, knowing I have a connection to them that cannot be explained”
A Bibliophile’s Portfolio began by scouring used books stores all over the country searching for the perfect volume and taking care to include every page, the work Kenna has produced is not meant to be a direct interpretation of the story, it is a reflection on its influence, a time in her life while reading it, or the impact a scene or character had on her. Every piece started and finished was heartbreaking and exciting. What better way to honor this muse than an exhibition?
Kenna Doeringer graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City where she majored in animation. After graduation she found herself in a career as a feature film picture and sound editor on over 45 projects. She never lost her desire to create, and in the wake of an eight year absence, picked up a brush and began the task of reacquainting herself with paint.
As a former photo-realist, she found a sophistication that comes with experience. The concepts stem from simple ideas and each piece inspires and creates architecture for the next. Relocation to Hawai’i for over ten years was the thrust Kenna needed to concentrate on her artwork, and be able to explore new avenues in creation. Passions began to stir and took on a new twist, utilizing outside passions and incorporating them into her work. Today, that thought process continues in her home, in Sacramento, California.
