Experimenting in light, structure and negative space, Kenna Doeringer continues to play with color and the influence small pieces can have on each other. Working with paper, drawn and hand cut presents it's strength and delecate nature, it makes an appearance with bright tones and a warm glow. They are illuminated from the back to enhance their brilliance, not allowing the layer in front to over shadow them. Peeking through the openings, whether the colors change or stay the same, you get a chance to see them enhancing or interacting with those preceding it. What better way to celebrate the spring than with a colorful array of art.
Artist Bio
Growing up with the encouragement to pursue painting, led to attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City. With an exposure to a vast array of new experiences and a broader view of the arts, she majored in animation, but soon developed a strong interest in film and sound. After graduation, she found herself in a career as a feature film picture and sound editor on over 45 projects. She never lost her desire to create, and in the wake of an eight year absence, picked up a brush and began the task of reacquainting herself with paint. As a former photo-realist, she found a sophistication that comes with experience. The concepts stem from simple ideas and each piece inspires and creates an architecture for the next. Recently departing from a visual medium, Kenna has been examining different genres and methods, combining work from her film and audio background and incorporating it into her current pieces. Today that exploration continues in her home, in Sacramento, California.
