WHAT WEIGHS THE IRON?
RECENT WORKS BY BENJAMIN ALEXY & JUSTIN MARSH

How do we negotiate the euphoria and melancholy that we ramble thru? Or account for our potentials and failures? We seek the elegance in collapse and the heroic in the macabre. As such, we continue an artistic dialogue that reminds us of what it means to be human.

Axis Gallery presents recent paintings and works on paper by artists Ben Alexy and Justin Marsh. Colleagues and close friends, these artists have built bodies of work anchored in figuration. The resilient and crushing aspects of human life are a common thread that informs and inspires one another’s work. Axis plays host to the artists’ new studies thru the month of March.

BENJAMIN ALEXY is a California native who continues to live and work in the Bay Area. His art career began in 2006 and has been tempered by a professional involvement in cycling. Both have deeply informed his approach to life. Namely: a high level of discipline and a conscious endeavor for balance.

JUSTIN MARSH grew up in Northern California’s Central Valley. He has worked in gallery and museum settings since 2004. Currently, Justin is the Museum Preparator at The Anderson Collection at Stanford University and an artist member at Axis Gallery, Sacramento.
