Heather Hogan is a Sacramento-based artist, professor, and designer who layers modern and traditional media into colorfully detailed compositions. Her joyful and layered artworks often collage analog materials with digitally-designed elements and community-sourced upcycled or unconventional materials. Public participation and education are strong elements in her practice.
Themes explored in her work include placemaking, tenacity, and the roles and responsibilities of women. Her recent public art projects focus on a community’s sense of pride in place through visual branding based on public input. Her artwork has graced the covers of magazines, beautified bike trails and highways, and can be seen in solo and group shows throughout California.
Ms. Hogan teaches art workshops at Sierra 2 Center and other venues around Sacramento and classes in web design and modern making at Sacramento City College.
