Your life can lead you to many crossroads, where you make your choices, and your past or what you want to have happen, can influence your decision. This selection can impact moments, people, things, or events in ways you could never imagine. Kenna Doeringer took the time to examine and break down some of these things, group them together, and present them to you to view, think about, laugh at, and even relate to. Each box may represent a period of time, a person, interest, event, place, or set of inspirations, all of which helped formed the artist, who she is, and ultimately her work. Some can hold deep memories from childhood or span ten years, but all are stories. There are some secrets hidden within each box, inside jokes, or personal revelations, but no matter what they may be, the artist dares you to explore.
Growing up with the encouragement to pursue painting, led to attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City. With an exposure to a vast array of new experiences and a broader view of the arts, she majored in animation, but soon developed a strong interest in film and sound. After graduation, she found herself in a career as a feature film picture and sound editor on over 45 projects. She never lost her desire to create, and in the wake of an eight year absence, picked up a brush and began the task of reacquainting herself with paint.
As a former photo-realist, she found a sophistication that comes with experience. The concepts stem from simple ideas and each piece inspires and creates an architecture for the next. Recently Kenna has been examining different genres and methods, combining her visual exploration in drawing and sculpting and her work in film and audio. Today that exploration continues in her home, in Sacramento, California.
