Meet the New Members of Axis Gallery’s “New Wave” Exhibition
This July, Axis Gallery welcomes ten dynamic new member artists, each bringing a distinct creative perspective to the Sacramento arts scene.
Delgreta Brown is a multidisciplinary artist and founder of Amariginal Art. Her work blends Afrofuturism, spirituality, and cultural aesthetics through vibrant mixed media, murals, and immersive exhibitions. A strong advocate for mental health and youth mentorship, she also explores the therapeutic power of art.
Sokthea Chan creates dreamlike paintings inspired by memory, time, and discovery. Influenced by nature, textures, and personal reflection, his work invites viewers to find wonder in fleeting moments. Chan recently earned his MFA from Sacramento State.
Raffa! Chávez combines Chicano art, poetry, and activism in his work. Through bright, layered compositions, he addresses environmental justice, cultural identity, and subconscious narratives. Raffa serves on the boards of Verge Center for the Arts and Folklorico Latino de Woodland.
Adam Cochran paints figurative work using oils and flashe, drawing from family photographs, politics, and everyday objects like fire sprinklers. His process-driven practice examines memory and aging. Cochran holds an MFA from UC Davis and lives in Sacramento.
Cara Gregor, the artist behind Cara Emilia, is an intuitive painter working with acrylic and mixed media. Her bold, organic forms celebrate color, joy, and the power of creative play. Through teaching and workshops, she helps others connect to their creativity.
Kenneth Jordan creates large-scale, expressive paintings inspired by music, culture, and movement. Influenced by a family of creatives and classic animation, his work is guided by rhythm, curiosity, and emotional storytelling.
Fiona K. Lau is a Canadian-American painter whose work has been exhibited across the U.S. and internationally. Her abstract pieces explore place, identity, and memory. Lau has participated in residencies in Japan, Canada, and the U.S., and is currently based in Sacramento.
Elise Mahan blends nature and memory in her large-scale drawings, created from site-specific rubbings gathered along the American River. Using pastel, graphite, and oil stick, her work investigates landscapes, time, and ecosystems. She recently completed her MFA at Sacramento State.
Taner Paşamehmetoğlu explores environmental urgency and cultural hybridity through oil, acrylic, photography, and upcycled materials. His process incorporates natural elements and community engagement. In 2024, he completed a City of Sacramento mural project addressing climate action.
Sharon Tsao is a social art historian, artist, and video producer whose canvas work reflects the emotional residue of history. Her paintings blend critique and introspection, seeking visual language for what words can’t hold. Her work is exhibited internationally."
