Axis is pleased to announce Posterwork, an exhibition curated by Beth Rubel and Alex Rubio. Posterwork is an exploration of traditional poster art and design, which have influenced modern life, including politics, culture and diverse industries. Posters continue to be a preferred, printed medium for contemporary graphic artists and activists. MOSAIC student artists present posters featuring compelling graphic design which captures this unique moment in time of cultural and socio-political importance.

Protect
I was inspired to make this piece because of our current state. We are currently living through a global pandemic where everyone needs to be wearing masks, when going out, to protect themselves and others. The virus symbol in the center is meant to represent the host and the green dots all around represent the spread of the virus. The word “PROTECT” is simply to show that we need to protect ourselves and those around us and we do that by properly wearing our masks when going out.
Katalina Rodriguez (Kat) enjoys creating abstract artwork on canvas with acrylic paint. Kat has been doing different kinds of art from a young age. Most recently Kat has begun to explore the art world through Blue Star Contemporary MOSAIC Student Artist Program. Through this program, she has learned many skills, like building her own canvases and working with new mediums. Some of these include oil paint, linoleum, chalk, and digital works. Kat’s artwork has been featured Blue Star Contemporary MOSAIC’s, “UNCHARTED” exhibition and participated in the ArtPace San Antonio’s, Chalk-It-Up in 2019 and designing a Digital Chalk-It-Up mural in 2020, designed in Procreate app with iPad and Apple Pencil. Kat has also participated in VASE during her sophomore year of high school in February 2019.

Loss of Innocence
“Loss of Innocence” is an art piece expressing the events of Covid-19 and mental health. The piece also correlates to life, before the outbreak. The teddy bear in the art piece captures an innocent memory, also being that it is a valentines themed bear, which took place in February 2020, the month before the “New Normal” lifestyle. With the “New Normal” lifestyle, there was a loss of simplicity in life and a stir of panic and anxiety due to all the changes from the outbreak. The bear wears a mask showing the loss of innocence. Things that were once simple like giving gifts now leaves us with the question of safety and worry. People had isolated themselves due to fear. The isolation has also impacted many mental health care issues this year with all the changes and pressure. There was a sense of loneliness and depression during the quarantine. This loss stirs around us. The teddy bear is also a reference to the “Bear Hunts”, the community had participated in during quarantine, by leaving stuffed animals by their windows to show signs of awareness.
Arianna Rosales is a young student artist currently based in San Antonio, Texas. Her mediums are Prismacolor pencils, oil paint and ceramics. Arianna specializes in realistic illustrations and uses vibrant colors. Rosales enjoys expressing and sharing her perspective through art in a youthful, innocent way. Rosales is passionate and inspired by expressing one's voice and mind through visual art. She has seen it important for the youth to have ways of sharing their perspective. Arianna started creating artwork with the Mosaic Student Artist Program in 2016 and is currently still enrolled in the program. Arianna has participated and showcased her artwork in several of Mosaic’s gallery openings and has sold many pieces of artwork in Blue Star Contemporary MOSAIC Gallery. Arianna has also received art commissions, competed in several art contests, and participated in events such as Scholastic, VASE and Chalk-It-Up, gaining many awards.
