Unraveled

Bringing together photography, painting, writing and embroidery, Rebecca Silva’s series Unraveled addresses mental health and uncovers the psychological aspects of living with and processing patterns of abuse, trauma, sexual assault and domestic violence. Using the process of creating as a form of art therapy, she explores what depression, anxiety and PTSD are like from inside these conditions. In the series of self portraits, Rebecca uses hair to explore the strong psychological connections we have to our hair and visually communicates how trauma, identity, and the act of healing are woven together. A focal point of her practice involves bringing together the audience and the artist, fostering a shared experience through openness and vulnerability. She invites the audience to witness this place of vulnerability and hopes to give space for others to become vulnerable and feel seen.
